  • Brough - the closest village to the site, boasts a monthly Saturday Farmers Market, a post office and newsagent, an excellent village stores, florist and not forgetting the well known fish and chip shop.
    A visit to Brough is never complete without a visit to Brough Castle Ice Cream Parlour.
  • Brough Castle - one of a number of Lady Anne Clifford Castles in the area. Within 2 miles of the site.
  • Kirkby Stephen and Appleby-in-Westmorland - local market towns which are worth exploring , not only with individual shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants but also some lovely walks adjacent to the River Eden, on the old railway routes and beyond to Nine Standards and Wild Boar Fell.
  • Barnard Castle and Middleton-in-Teesdale - two Market towns to the east of the site and within 20 minutes drive. Again beautiful walks, individual shops, the Castle and Bowes Museum are just a few of the sites worth exploring.
  • Tan Hill Inn - the highest pub in England, it is situated on the Arkengarthdale Moor and on the Pennine Way. The route from Argill House forms part of the Walney to Wear C to C route - so get your bike out and join in! A warm welcome awaits.
  • Settle to Carlisle Railway - an unforgettable train ride with amazing views of the surrounding Cumbrian and North Yorkshire countryside and the unique Ribblehead Viaduct. The local train stations are Appleby and Kirkby Stephen.
